How many types of Yoga are there?

Traditionally, there are four main branches of yoga:

bulletRaja (self-control)
bulletBhakti (devotional)
bulletKarma (service)
bulletJnana (scholar).

Other minor branches include Kundalini and Tantra.

Most Western yoga, including this school's version, are based upon components of Raja yoga.

Almost all of the physical yoga practices are forms of Hatha yoga. The different schools are often distinguished by lineage of teachers. Some of the major schools include:

Anusara Based on "Universal Principles of Alignment" championed by John Friend
Ashtanga (Power Yoga) One of the most strenuous forms championed by K.P.Jois
Bikram (Hot Yoga) Vigorous form performed in room heat to 100 F
Iyengar Intense focus on alignment and form
Sivananda One of the earliest forms brought to the West
Vinyasa (Flowing) Blending of Iyengar and Ashtanga
